The Department of Computer Science was established in 1999 to meet the growing demands of technology and industry. The department has implemented the FY NEP (2024–25) curriculum and, in addition to the core syllabus, conducts skill development, value education, ability enhancement, and add-on courses to support the holistic development of students.
The Department is supported by a team of full-time qualified and experienced faculty members dedicated to delivering quality education. The faculty emphasizes academic excellence, professional ethics, and career-oriented skill development.

The department encourages active student participation through its monthly magazine IT Buzzer, which is conceptualized designed and published by Computer Science students. This initiative is carried out under the Info-T Club, the official student forum of the Department of Computer Science.
The Info-T Club organizes various academic and co-curricular activities such as Quiz competitions, Presentomania, Group discussions, Gaming events, Technical and non-technical competitions to enhance students’ technical knowledge, communication skills, leadership qualities and teamwork.
The Department organizes Guest lectures by experts from reputed institutes and industry, Industrial visits for real-world exposure and Internship opportunities to strengthen project development skills.
Students are trained in a wide range of technologies and domains, including C++, Java Programming, Python, Node.js, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.
As part of the second-year curriculum, students participate in a Community Engagement Program that promotes social ethics, moral values and a sense of responsibility towards society.

The Department of Computer Science at Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous) actively pursued academic enrichment, research engagement, industry interaction, and community-oriented initiatives during the academic year 2025–2026, in alignment with holistic learning, innovation, and social responsibility.
A range of academic and co-curricular activities were organized, including orientation program for first year students, Logiptude, Talent Hunt, Ganesh Sketch Competition, Presentomania, Group Discussions, Freezy Finger, and Poster Presentations on Green Technology. These activities strengthened students’ creativity, technical competence, teamwork, and communication skills.
Online Extension Initiative: Faculty members and selected SYCS advanced learners conducted an online outreach program for school teachers, demonstrating simple and error-free methods of creating online quizzes and assessments. This initiative helped teachers adopt effective digital evaluation practices.
To connect academics with real-world exposure, industrial visits were arranged to the Green IT Recycling Center and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), where students observed sustainable e-waste practices and advanced computing technologies.
The department nurtured a strong research culture by guiding students to participate in Aavishkar Research Convention, where two group projects were selected in the first zonal round.
The department signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SDAC to facilitate student internships, skill development training, and placement opportunities, thereby strengthening industry linkage and enhancing employability prospects for students.
An Intercollegiate seminar on Natural Language Processing was conducted for degree students by Dr. Annie Rajan ,Goa University.
During Smart India Hackathon 2025, students worked in teams to develop practical technology solutions for real-world problems under faculty guidance, gaining hands-on experience in teamwork and innovation.
The Department of Computer Science at Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous) actively engaged in academic enrichment, research, industry exposure and community outreach during the academic year 2024–2025, aligning its initiatives with holistic learning, innovation and social responsibility.
The Department organized diverse academic and co-curricular activities such as Logiptude, Ganesh Sketch Competition, Presentomania, Group Discussions, and Poster Presentations on IoT and Green Technology to enhance students’ creativity, technical knowledge and communication skills.
Extension & Community Outreach :As part of extension work, faculty members and selected SYCS advanced learners conducted “Gyan Dhan”, an outreach program for school students, benefiting 61 participants through basic computer learning and a fun computer quiz.
To bridge academia and industry, educational visits were arranged to I Square IT and Imperative Business Ventures, exposing students to real-world software practices.
The department fostered a strong research culture by mentoring students to participate in Aavishkar Research Convention and Smart India Hackathon 2024, and to co-author research papers with faculty. Students further enhanced their skills through NPTEL certification in Python for Data Science. A National-Level Webinar on “Federated Learning and Advancements in AI” attracted around 300 participants.
The Department regularly organizes expert lectures and career guidance sessions to prepare students for emerging opportunities by industry professionals and alumni.
Student Achievements :
The Department of Computer Science adopts student-centric and participative teaching practices to promote critical thinking and civic awareness. Methods such as PPT’s,online videos and refrences, group discussions, seminars/talks are regularly used to make learning engaging and relevant.
Learning through Experience: Internships and client-based projects, educational visits provide immersive exposure, promotes group cohesiveness, and enhance adaptive life skills while connecting classroom learning with lived experiences.
Extension Activities: Department faculty members along with selected SYCS advanced learners regularly conducted a online workshops for school teachers such as “Creating Effective Presentations using AI Tools”and ”Online assessment tools for Education purpose. The workshop focused on practical methods to design PPTs using modern AI-powered tools, helping teachers enhance their digital content creation skills for classroom teaching. In addition to one more extension program titled “Gyan Dhan” was organized for school students from nearby institutions. A total of 61 students participated and were introduced to fundamental computer concepts, fostering early interest in computing and digital literacy.
