NSS Unit

National Service Scheme

Instilling a Strong Sense of Social Responsibility

Our NSS Unit was established in the year 1989-1990. We have a dedicated Unit of NSS. There are 2 units consisting of 200 volunteers who are consecutively striving for many year in the different social activities such as: Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Blood Donation, Waste Management, Health and Hygiene and Disaster Management.

The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world-famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Odisha, India. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release. It signifies the movement in life across time and space, the symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.

The eight bars in the wheel represents 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind. It stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social transformation and uplift.

The NSS unit has adopted Dahisar village at Saphale and initiated the process of development. The special camp which we conduct gives a chance to the students to live along with the residents and manage life in scares resourses. The students are creating awareness towards literacy by taking classes, distributing reading and writing material. They ensure that there is an awareness among the villagers about the importance of hygiene. They have dug several soap pits for the villages, performed street plays on topics such as alcoholism, dowry system, harmful effects of consuming tobacco, drug addiction etc. students have also calculated BMI of the school children and guided the parents for improving the health of the children. The students in turn gain an insight of the life in the village, develop leadership quality, team work etc.

Volunteers who undergo the prescribed course of training are being awarded with the university certificate.
